Merry Christmas!

Hello all! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday break and had a Merry Christmas. I was a very busy girl with the birth of my daughter (who has already been dubbed the youngest member of both of her car clubs) and have been enjoying my time with her.

My Camaro, Cammy, did receive some nice Christmas gifts as well. She got some new floor mats and a new trunk mat, and we also got some Camaro key chains and Camaro wall art for the garage so she can be even more well represented.

Did your awesome muscle car get some new goodies this holiday? Be sure to share them with us at CamaroKitty.com! :)

WHM Toys for Tots

I love doing things for others, and with it being Christmas time and with everyone busy with holiday festivities there are lots of opportunities to do some awesome "giving of ourselves". Recently, West Houston Muscle held their annual Toys for Tots Car Show. Car enthusiasts gathered to have a good time, enjoy each others company, and give something back to the community by giving to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. It is great to do something for a program that gives to kids.

Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which donates toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. It began as a Los Angeles charitable effort in 1947. Hendricks was inspired by his wife Diane when she tried to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but could find no organization to do so. At her suggestion he gathered a group of local Marine reservists, including Lieutenant Colonel John Hampton, who coordinated and collected some 5,000 toys for local children that year from collection bins placed outside of Warner Bros. movie theaters. Their efforts were so successful that, in 1948, Toys For Tots was launched as a national campaign. Hendricks used his position as director of Public Relations for Warner Brothers Studio to enlist celebrity support, as well as have Walt Disney Studios design the red toy train logo. And it has grown from there. Today you can find Toys for Tots boxes placed in many local businesses, and they are supported by large numbers of organizations.

West Houston Muscle coordinates their efforts to raise toys and money for the program by holding an annual car show. This year, the show included bringing in donations, a raffle, trophies, music, giveaways, and food and drinks. (I got to enjoy funnel cake and a deep fried Snickers!) The car club collected 12 super sized black garbage bags of toys as well as over $1,500 was raised.

I would like to say a big thank you to Sean Tajipour, president of WHM, for all of his efforts to put the event together as well as a thank you to the people who came out to show their support.

Detailing is my friend

I love getting the Camaro detailed. Seriously....love it! Sure I can wash my car, or my husband can wash her, and that is important. Gotta keep the girl clean, after all. But get her detailed, and WOW...it just adds that extra sparkle to her finish! Cammy (my car, for those who do not know her name) got quite the special treatment last Monday. Since she was going to be in AutoRama, she had to be super cleaned. So I called Russell at Personal Touch Auto Detailing and he did one amazing job. Cammy was hand washed to remove all traces of dirt and grime from all areas, including  the door jams and wheel-wells. She had her interior thoroughly dusted and vacuumed. She was cleaned, polished, and waxed to perfection. And then, even after spending roughly ten hours on her detailing that day, she got a few more hours of attention from the detailer after she arrived at the convention center for the show. Basically, awesome detailing, and Cammy looked super clean. She shined like glass and got lots of compliments.

H-Town Camaro Club car show and meeting

My Camaro Club had a meeting at the Pine Forest Country Club in Houston, Texas on 11-20-11. The location was a nice one for a little Camaro car show, so we went early to show off our cars. Here are some pictures from the event. Enjoy!

AutoRama...here I come!

I have been to my fair share of indoor car shows. It started in my youth and continued into adulthood, first as just an enthusiast and then as a muscle car owner. I must admit, as much as I loved going before, ever since I've had my own beautiful Camaro, I somehow love it even more now.

It is especially nice during the winter months to have other options besides movies or bowling to go to. And these days there are many options for finding a good indoor car venue. One of my favorites to attend is AutoRama. The very first AutoRama was put on by the MHRA (Michigan Hot Rod Association) at the University of Detroit Field House in January of 1953, with 50 cars. AutoRama continued to expand throughout the late 60s and early 70s, and today is featured in several locations across the United States.

I went to AutoRama last year as just a spectator and enjoyed surveying the wide collection of cars, as well as the many events they had planned (examples include the Automotive Swap Meet & Toy Show,   1:64 Scale Competitive Downhill Racing, Special Guest Appearances, Great Rockabilly Music, and Performance World - showcasing modern muscle, Sport Compacts, Exotics & European Luxury).

Houston's AutoRama runs during Thanksgiving weekend each year and brings in quite a crowd.  This year my Camaro will be one of the cars in the show, so I am even more excited than before. I will be showing with one of my clubs (West Houston Muscle) and will be featured beside a gorgeous '69 Camaro, so we can represent the old and the new.  The other car club I am a member of (H-Town Camaro Club) will also have a nice display as well.  If you are in the Houston, Texas area, you should definitely make the time to come out. And if you aren't in the Houston area, then just check the AutoRama website to find a show closer to you.

FIX for the TROOPS

FIX for the TROOPS was held on Friday, November 4, and it was a great success for their first event.

Painted Doll Creations started FIX for the TROOPS as a non profit benefit to raise money and items year round to keep providing the troops some necessities and fun extras of home while they are away from their families.  All proceeds from the event were donated.

The event included a car show, pin-up contest, raffle, bake sale, bands, and so much more! It was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves while raising money for such a good cause.

Do muscle cars have a future?

Do muscle cars have a future? Got your attention, didn't I? Of course they do! They continue to survive fuel crisis, the shift towards family styling of cars, and even more important I think the new modern muscle continues to provide the fury of the originals.
The dictionary defines a muscle car (noun) as a flashy sports car with a large, powerful engine; a hot rod. But if you own one, you know that definition doesn't even begine to scratch the surface of what a muscle car is.
I love the original muscle cars. They are, of course, legends in their own right and always will be. They will also always be glorious and make heads turn when you see one. They are cars that can not be tamed and should not be. They are four-wheeled American freedom. They represent the love of power and, to some extent, being reckless and wild. And that senario appeals to basically every age - to have an area of your life that is "untamed".
I also love that the modern muscle strives to capture those ideas and pay homage to those glory days. Which brings up another question...can you obey the street laws and own a muscle car? Yes you can, because part of the joy is just feeling cool while driving them.  However, who doesn't like seeing just how fast that baby can go? I suppose you could always take your muscle car out to the track...

WHM Trunk-or-Treat! A car show for costumes and candy fun!

Fall is a wonderful time of year. So many great things happen during this season. Leaves change color (well, in other parts of the country, not usually here in Katy, Texas...but at least I can see it on pictures and TV!), wonderful smells from the kitchen, getting to eat candy corn, pumpkin seeds, and pumpkin bread, fall decorations come out, and then there is the excuse to dress up in costume!

Now, even more fun that dressing up, is getting to see precious little kids dress up in costume and use that as a reason to have a very cool car show...Trunk-or-Treat! Trunk-or-treats have become very popular in recent years. It is a great way to have a community party without having to clean up your house, gives the kids something fun and safe to do, and is a great way to show off all of our awesome cars! Lots of fun ideas can go along with this type of car show. You can decorate the cars as well as yourself, choose to have your candy in a bucket by the car if you want to protect your car from being touched by hands, have costume contests, trophies, prizes, raffles, and baked goods as well!

West Houston Muscle did their Trunk-or-Treat this past Saturday. It was tons of fun! The kids had a blast dressing up and getting candy, there were 100+ awesome rides at the show, and awards were given out to best children and best adult costumes. Be sure to check out your community for Trunk-or-Treat Car Shows in the next few weeks. They are great for family get togethers, and a fun twist on a car show!

Pattison Car show 2011

The Pattison Car Show was held on October 8, 2011 at Royal High School. The event is in it's sixth year and is going strong and growing larger each time. This car show boasted everything from classics and muscle cars, to exotic imports and 4-wheel drive! You could even find some motorcycles, go-karts and a lawn mower!! The variety of vehicles that participated to raise money for Pattison, Texas area projects was amazing and enjoyable. Other fun attractions at the show included a kid bicycle show, baby parade, best exhaust, and a 50/50 raffle pot drawing.

A BIG thank you to Jim Meader and his crew of volunteers for putting on such a nice event!

Texas Camaro Nationals 2011

H-town held it's annual Texas Camaro Nationals this past weekend, and it was a blast! On Saturday, October 1st we enjoyed the COOLER Houston weather at Advanced Racing Dynamics. The combination car show and dyno event drew a crowd of Camaro enthusiasts from H-Town Camaro Club as well as bringing in some fans from other cities.  We also can boast that we may have put the Ice Cream Truck man outta commission for that day with the number of ice cream sales he made to the members of H-Town!

Sunday, October 2nd promised to be a bit warmer outside, and a few of us had to slather on the sunscreen. But who is worried about burning the skin when it is time to burn the rubber? We started early again that morning, with the test runs and, after a few misadventures with some blown motors, a twisted drive shaft, and a dead tranny, we enjoyed a full day of drag racing. (Don't worry folks, those Caamaros with the issues will be back up and running in no time...cause that is how we roll!)

The weekend was full of Camaros, Camaro lovers, fun and adventures. To check out more pictures and to see video from the event, please go to the following links. And don't forget to join us at Texas Camaro Nationals 2012!
